Inspired by the circumstances surrounding Susan Booth’s fight against cancer in 2021 (see the first article in the series about her health journey, “Azure Family Love: Living to Tell About It”), this fund aims to help Azure customers who have been taking care of their health, enjoying Azure food, and living a healthy lifestyle, yet find themselves faced with a disease, like cancer, that needs treatment not available at mainstream medical facilities and is not covered by health insurance.

Many good alternative treatments are available (some, not all, must be done outside the U.S.), yet because insurance doesn’t cover these treatments (yet) many people are forced to decide between no treatment at all, or going through the treatments that are covered by insurance — typically conventional, mainstream medical procedures.  Neither of those two options may be optimal for the situation.

So, we have created the Alternative Care Fund.  You can donate to it (if you are able) and you can suggest someone else in the Azure Family who you know needs assistance in paying for alternative health treatments not covered by insurance.  We will only be able to help if enough money has built up in the Fund to cover the needed treatments.  Each suggested person will be seriously considered on a first-come-first-served basis, and preference will be given to the immediate family of those who have donated to the fund in the past, those who are current and active Azure customers, and those they highly recommend. There may be a waiting list if there are not yet enough funds to cover everyone who needs assistance.

We already have a relationship with Envita Medical Center after Susan Booth’s experience there, and have been able to work with them to get discounted rates for other patients being sponsored by Heritage Congregation through this Fund.  But, we know there are other effective alternative medical centers and clinics out there that we would consider working with as well.  If you have a particular clinic you would like us to consider working with, we would appreciate hearing your thoughts and experience there.
